So sorry I missed the very first meeting.

I would have had to peruse the book carefully to find something that speaks to me as I am not a huge fan of Southern cooking, to be honest. Your bananas I would not even have considered to try! That white stuff on the plate? The cheese custard? I'll take your word for it that it was tasty ;-)

Now, I know I might sound harsh and I truly do not mean to. This style of cooking has not really made its way up north of the 45th parallel. I'll never, ever understand who thought up waffles and fried chicken and I know sausage gravy is a huge deal but nope.

No worries. You had your hands full, and there's another one in June, if you are so inclined.

Thank goodness there are many cuisines to cook from and many ways to prepare food. Certainly there are a few Canadian dishes that Southerners might back away from as well. I consider it all a wash.

And I meant no disrespect to Southern cuisine, I hope you realise! There are lots of things Southern (gumbo, for example) that I do love.

A wash, eh? Canadian dishes... what the hell do we have besides poutine? ;-)

None taken. Thank goodness you mentioned poutine. It was not coming up in the memory banks. Does anyone in the provinces eat whale meat? That's one that might be hard to convince US peps to eat. Same with seal. I know some Alaskan indigenous tribes eat those two.

Only ones eating whale meat are the Inuit up in Nunavut. Definitely not us!

We do have our sugar shack fare: omelettes, oreilles de criss (fried pork rind), baked beans, ham, pancakes, maple everything... but nothing in those items are not eaten elsewhere...

Of course, we have our smoked meat, not to be confused with the American pastrami. And we do have our butter tarts, beaver tails (fried dough), Nanaimo bars, and various Indigenous things like bannock, moose meat, etc.

These are delish... I'm all about the classic cinnamon sugar but they have nutella and apple and PB and Jam...
