How silly of me to use one of my three leeks the other night for a chicken dish. I so loved this soup. No, I am not going out to buy more! It'll have to wait for another occasion. Besides, is it just me? Onion and leeks et al give me some stinky gas... as does chicken, for that matter. It annoys me to no end!
Other than poisoning my own environment, I have no other issues. But it wasn't always so. It's just rather disconcerting, is all... And cooking without onions? Oy!
I love anything to do with leeks so this one is definitely on my to-do list. Matter of fact, I might just mosey off to the store tomorrow to get me some leeks (only ingredient missing to make this beauty).
I love the story and it's funny; every time I watch a movie with battle scenes in which no one has official uniforms, I always wonder how they knew who to kill! A leek "crown" works for me :)
I think it might be too thin, and I needed to use up the potato. It had been languishing since the potato soup disaster. It was okay, but I'd like to try the soup without the potato. I feel like it will be even more oniony.
There's a recipe out there that stirs in Stilton and cream at the end. That sounded really good, but I wasn't heading out to get the cheese.
Hmmm... It's worth a try. I'm off for an appointment and am stopping by the store to buy leeks on my way back...
That could be interesting. Too bad I don't have any more of the fabulous blue cheese I had at Christmas; I would have tried it. (No, right now the budget says yes to leeks, no to Stilton).
It was a slip-sliding-away drive. Thankfully did not have to go far. Picked up my leeks (bloody hell... 3/5.99, 1/1.99 - I picked up four, got charged for the three... and a packet of frozen spinach because I want to make the squash/spinach rotolo I saw on the IG...

Uhm, check out fructans.

I'm going to assume the amount of water or stock is to cover the veggies... (Hope I didn't put too much again!)
Exactly. Everyone's pot is different.
Oh, I am at the lemon zest and stand part... Where does the brown sugar come in?
Taste it and add if you think it needs a little sweetness.

It's one of my favorite stories too. I am imagining the Saxons thinking, "What? Blood, guts, and smell? I'm outta here."
I hope you like it. The next time I make it, I will completely leave out the potato because I think /know I would Like it more.
Haha!
I know I will. Why did you put it in? Will it be too thin, do you think?

Safe and uneventful travels. Please post your photos so I may see your fabulous soup.
